ForgivenessG

a.k.a. Timothy David Gauthier

Creating original content that not only entertains but enlightens and empowers. That’s the mission fueling the work of multi-faceted artist and producer Timothy David Gauthier.

Under the artist name ForgivenessG, the Amherstview, Ontario resident brings his many creative talents to bear on visual multimedia projects, as well as musical endeavours. He has spent years honing his craft as a writer, film and video producer, editor and director.

Alongside this, like a veritable creative polymath, he was also cultivating his love and interest in the processes of musical composition with original songwriting that began in 2004. After many years of contemplation and revision of these songs, a full album of original material was released in 2018.

As the world seemingly returns to some sense of normality, 2024 marks a turning point for ForgivenessG, as the long-time healthcare professional will focus all his considerable talents to conceive more than just content but build community through film, music, speaking and interpersonal interactions with individuals and groups seeking creative solutions, and creative inspiration.

There is a strong, central core element that weaves its way through the work of ForgivenessG – the concept of finding and using one’s voice – a complex process that doesn’t necessarily get easier with age but can be revelatory and life-changing. His experiences as a member of the Kingston Townsmen Chorus and Open Voices Community Choir instilled in him the idea of the exceptional power carried by voices alone and in harmony with one another – a lesson that he carries in every facet of his life.

ForgivenessG brings to bear his varied experience in video and audio production, combined with his skills as a musician, singer and songwriter, to create professional-grade content for use by a host of professional clients. These include small businesses, community organizations, private events, or fellow artists seeking clever ways to promote their own artistic outpourings.

But he also utilizes these talents to express his own creative musings, building a repertoire of original songs inhabited by his cogent observations about life, in all its struggles and success, love and the power of the human spirit. And many of these melodious messengers are infused with affirmation, inspiration and a spirit of empowerment – the foundational tenets to all his current and future labours.

A compelling example of this bold approach is the new song and video “Only Love,” which features a captivating spoken word element infused with an infectiously accessible pop-rock vibe that asks, “Can we go deeper and find only love?”

ForgivenessG has spent a lifetime ‘going deeper,’ being attracted to the power and influence music has on his fellow humans. Music has always been both an escape and a source of inspiration for ForgivenessG, a name given to him by a friend. The word forgiveness is fundamental to his life, as he encourages people to not just forgive others who may have done them harm – but to forgive oneself. Again, it is demonstrative of a powerful use of an individual’s voice, this time that constant inner voice.

“From an early age, music was always important to me. My first cassettes were Glass Tiger (Thin Red Line), Bon Jovi (Slippery When Wet) and Michael Jackson’s Thriller. My older brother exposed me to bands like The Ramones, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin. I seemed to develop a knack for sharing songs at parties that were successful in elevating the moment, getting people dancing.”

“But it wasn’t until I was working in South Korea in my late 20s that I started to learn guitar and write my own songs. Over the years, I compiled a notebook of about 35 to 40 songs but didn’t get serious about recording them until 2015.”

At that point, he recorded an album’s worth of material through Kingston’s Elevation Music Studio, releasing the songs digitally. At the same time, he was also creating music videos, some parody/comedy videos and initiated projects that highlighted a more dramatic take on his original filmmaking.

ForgivenessG began what is currently known as FG Music & Media to facilitate not only his growing number of creative passion projects but also his increasing popularity as a developer of content for other clients.

This brings one to a further important ‘branch’ of Forgiveness G’s. For more than two decades, he has worked within the health and wellness sector, including lengthy stints as an addiction/mental health advocate and, more recently, as a youth sexual health counsellor. Through this work, he has come to understand the importance of trust, listening, and relationships.

“Outside of film and music, I work with youth ages 12 to 24 and educate them about boundaries, consent, privacy, healthy relationships, and healthy sexual development. I communicate the importance of forgiveness and the impact of guilt and shame in our lives,” he explained.

That central theme of his creative work is also expressed in his ‘day job,’ proving that not only can art imitate life, but art can change lives. And this: the idea that one’s voice is the most powerful tool for self-expression, self-determination, and self-advocacy.

A life dedicated to creativity and beauty, infused with a sense of purpose to help manifest the vision of his clients – that’s the powerful mission emboldening the work of ForgivenessG. Both his work life and creative life involve the significance of ‘story’ at their core. Our story as humans impacts who we are today and who we will be tomorrow, while stories are the essential elements of good lyrics – stories can even be told through compositional and melodic choices, all to compelling and meaningful effect.

Whether it be through the medium of film, the soundscapes and emotive power of music, the efficacy and impact of spoken word artistic representations, or his day-to-day efforts on behalf of developing youth, the power of a single voice, the resonance of collective voices, and the desire to share affirming, informing and inspiring tidings underlies everything he does.

And as he evolves as a human, health care professional and artist, his impact and influence will only shine brighter.
